Then I thought that maybe that was what she was waiting for. There is nothing women love so much as the drunkard, the hellion, the roarer, the reprobate. They love him because they- women, I mean- are like the bees in Samson's parable in the Bible: they like to build their honeycomb in the carcass of a dead lion. Out of the strong shall come forth sweetness.

Don’t be foolish enough to base love, real, true love, on something as silly as whether or not you’ve hurt someone, or if they have hurt you. We are human beings, and we fuck up every day, regardless of whether or not we love someone. So if he loves you, he will hurt you, but if you love him, you will stay with him anyway. And if he loves you, he will apologize. And you will forgive him, because he loves you. It is that easy.
